Good school grades in “important” subjects, university degrees, and safe career paths that do not challenge the status quo. All of this is what the majority of us were taught is most desirable, and what we may unthinkingly pass on to our children and make important for them.

The reality is that many geniuses in our world, the people who have shaped and changed the course of history have operated in a very different way. Surely that begs the question….’Is it attaining top grades in formal education that creates these geniuses or should we be asking more questions?

Think of Richard Branson, who is dyslexic, had little formal education, dropping out of school at aged 16, and is now creating hugely. Thomas Edison, The Wright Brothers, Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs! Or an example from a different field. Leonardo de Vinci who reportedly was unable to be...
